Necuno Solutions and WebOS Ports collaboration

Helsinki on December 05, 2018

Necuno Solutions and WebOS Ports announce community collaboration, bringing LuneOS on Necuno Mobile.

LuneOS is an open-source continuation of the webOS originally developed by Palm and HP. WebOS Ports aims to bring LuneOS to real world devices and be a usable alternative in the mobile operating system world. LuneOS is maintained by WebOS Ports community which recently released a new version called Doppio.

Necuno Solutions is introducing a truly open source and secure mobile hardware platform called Necuno Mobile. Open source mobile communities have been looking forward to a device like this for a long time, because a device so uniquely open has never been made before.

Necuno Solutions wants to offer Necuno Mobile as a platform to build upon for alternative community based mobile operating systems to boost their development and drive interest towards them. LuneOS fits perfectly in this category and this community collaboration brings an alternative option based on the webOS platform for the interested early adopters.

“We believe users should be able to choose an operating system for their mobile device and LuneOS can be one of the choices. LuneOS is a good effort of bringing open-source alternative to the mobile operating system world. Being based on the webOS it will be an interesting alternative with strong base to develop the project further.” - Tanja Drca, Chief Communications Officer at Necuno Solutions.

“We believe in true open source hardware and software and for the end user being able to build their own OS fully from source, preferably without any binary blobs from manufacturers. To date we had to rely on closed source binary blobs from (Android) vendors for our distribution. We believe that Necuno will allow us to bring a true open source solution.” - Christophe Chapuis, LuneOS developer

About Us

Necuno Solutions is company built around the idea of providing security, privacy and freedom to the current mobile world.

Our main goal is to work towards more open, transparent and secure mobile ecosystem, where the user and companies are in control of their data, where security and privacy is at it's core. This is a monumental task and cannot be achieved by any one company in the current mobile world. That is why we are working with FOSS mobile operating system communities to boost the development of open-source operating system alternatives. The software alone is not enough and that is why we are working for a new hardware built with open components.
